South Beach: A Beautiful Beachside Community
South Beach just might be the perfect small-town beach community. It’s quiet and laid-back, with lots of (more affordable) housing options. It’s got plenty of commercial development, like shopping and dining, too. And of course, you can’t beat that not-too-crowded white-sand beach—complete with breathtaking views of the Verrazano Bridge. If you’re looking for a neighborhood that’s comfortable, convenient, affordable, AND just steps from the beach, then South Beach is a terrific place to start searching!

The Community
The main attraction of South Beach is of course, its beach! Popular with locals and visitors, the beach features a charming 1.7 mile boardwalk perfect for strolling or jogging. There are also a few restaurants along this stretch, and the neighboring park provides even more amenities—including baseball fields, barbecue areas, bocce and handball courts, canoe and kayak launches, playgrounds, skate parks, biking trails, and more. There’s even a beautiful bronze dolphin fountain. Just a short drive away, Hylan Boulevard offers more options for shopping and dining.
The Homes
In its early days, South Beach was a vacation destination comprised of charming beach bungalows. In the early 2000s, the community was revitalized with new attached or semidetached colonials and townhouses—leaving today’s real estate market falling into predominantly two categories. There are single-family bungalows, and there are new townhouses or two-family colonials. The new development over the past decade has caused a significant increase in home values, but prices still remain much lower than in many other parts of the city.
